The Corona virus originated in in the capital city of Wuhan, with the first case being traced as far back as November 17, 2019. What started as a an epidemic in China, has turned out to become a global pandemic. This animation helps you understand this global transformation. Apart from visualizing the how COVID-19 has been spreading globally, this dynamic tracker helps to identify the total cases and total deaths across all the countries on any given day right from December 31, 2019 to April 10, 2020.
Some interesting findings from this tracker include:
- China is the only country affected by the virus till January 13, 2020 with around 60 cases in total
- Thailand is the very first country apart from China to detect a COVID-19 case on January 13
- By 22nd January, new cases are detected in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and USA
- By the end of January countries like Australia, Canada, Italy, Sweden, Russia and United Kingdom get affected
- By the mid of February, Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania are the continents where the virus has spread. Africa and South America are still unaffected. China still tops the charts for most cases
- By the end of February, cases emerge in Brazil and also African countries like Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria. All continents across the globe are affected (excluding Antarctica)
- The month of March sees the exponential growth of cases across a few countries, notably USA, Italy, Spain and Iran. Excluding Iran, the rest of the countries surpass China in terms of total cases. For China, there were just an additional 3000 cases in the entire month of March.
- As of April 10, 2020, more than 200 countries and territories are have active COVID-19 cases and the situation continues to worsen globally.
